Job summary

As a member of the Mission Performance Team of the Real-time Services and System Operations Division (RSO), the Junior Systems Engineer supports the engineering and roll-out into operations of multi-mission monitoring, reporting solutions and other performance monitoring systems related to on-line data access systems and cloud-based platforms for data access services. The initial focus will be on developing capabilities to reach full proficiency in the area of operations of on-line data access systems and cloud-based data access service platforms in a 24/7 operational environment.

Job description

DUTIES

  • Support the operational roll-out of upgrades to on-line data access systems, cloud-based data access service platforms and other multi-mission elements required for future satellite systems (e.g. MTG, EPS-SG, Jason-CS);
  • Maintain documentation relating to multi-mission system operations;
  • Support the upgrade of multi-mission monitoring and reporting solutions and other performance monitoring tools, including maintaining requirements, reviewing design and technical proposals and coordination of validation test campaigns;
  • Support the analysis and evolution of other aspects of multi-mission system infrastructure and operations;
  • Support the configuration and routine operations of multi-mission monitoring/reporting systems, on-line data access systems and cloud-based data access services platforms.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of requirements engineering and methods and tools for verification and validation testing;
  • Knowledge and some experience of cloud and big data technologies;
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines under changing conditions, and strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation of complex problems and solutions;
  • Strong team-working and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong motivation to develop towards full professionalism in the area of multi-mission system operations engineering.
  • University Degree in Physics, Computer Science or similar technical discipline.
  • Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

The initial contract will be under the EUMETSAT Early Career Employee Programme (ECEP), for two (2) years with grade A1. Subject to successful performance, a further contract of 5 years’ duration will be awarded in a post graded A2-A4. Additional contracts may be awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63, and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.

This post is graded A1 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 4393 per month (net of internal tax) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
